Christmas Eve is a 1941 American animated short film directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera .

action

The day before Christmas. The house is festively decorated, the presents are under the Christmas tree and the mouse Jerry finds a piece of cheese with a bow in a mousetrap in front of her mouse hole . However, Jerry is much more interested in the numerous wrapped presents, licking a candy cane, rocking on a small rocking chair and jumping around on a stuffed lion, which makes noises. Another furry surface that Jerry lands on and jumps around turns out to be Tom the cat, and both rivals are now chasing their way across the gift collection. Tom kisses the mouse while it is hiding under a mistletoe , but in the end Jerry escapes through the letter slot the door, which Tom then barricades.

The cat shakes his pillow in front of the fireplace and wants to sleep. However, the guilty conscience about Jerry, who is slowly snowing in in the cold outside, does not let him calm down. He opens the letter slot, but no mouse appears. Tom finally finds Jerry completely frozen and slowly thaws him over the fire. Jerry is horrified when he opens his eyes and sees Tom next to him. He puts a candy cane in front of the mouse for reconciliation. Jerry reciprocates by drawing Tom's attention to the mousetrap he has hidden in his milk bowl. In the end, Jerry returns to the mousehole and beforehand uses the candy cane to catch the wrapped piece of cheese from the mousetrap. But it doesn't snap, but slowly collapses and plays a Christmas tune - Jerry is thrilled.
