history

In 1926/1927 , the city of Berlin acquired the majority of shares in the various transport companies, including the elevated railway company, in order to achieve a uniform municipal transport offer. However, a merger of the companies would have resulted in private shareholders continuing to hold shares in the new company, which in turn would have prevented the exemption from corporate and wealth tax . Therefore, the route of sale and liquidation was chosen. On January 1, 1929, the elevated railway company sold its systems and vehicles to the newly founded urban Berliner Verkehrs-AG, today's Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe . The liquidation of the elevated railway company lasted until 1931.

Over the entire duration of its existence, the elevated railway company was headed by Paul Wittig ; initially as sole director , later as chairman of a multi-member board.

In the anteroom of the station building of the Nollendorfplatz underground station there is a circular memorial hall with the names of the numerous elevated railway companies who died in the First World War
