Hodh Ech Chargui ("Eastern Basin", Arabic ولاية الحوض الشرقي, DMG Wilāyat al-Ḥauḍ aš-šarqī ) is the first administrative region in Mauritania . Its capital is Néma , other important towns are Adel Bagrou, the largest city in the region, Boû Gâdoûm , Timbédra , Boû Steïlé and Walata . In 2017 the population was estimated at 478,500.

Hodh Ech Chargui is divided into six departments: Amourj , Bassikounou , Timbédra , Djigueni , Néma and Oualata . The region is surrounded by the regions of Hodh El Gharbi , Adrar and Tagant from the west and Mali from the east and south.
