Nouakchott-Sud (Nouakchott South, Arabic نواكشوط الجنوبية, DMG Nawākšūṭ al-Ǧanūbiyya ) is an administrative region in Mauritania . It includes the three southern departments of the capital Nouakchott : Arafat , El Mina and Riyad . The administrative headquarters are in Arafat and Nouakchott's deep water port is in the area. The region borders on the Ouad Naga department of the Trarza region to the south . The main traffic artery is the N2 , which runs south along the coast. In the north, the N3 forms part of the border with the Nouakchott Nord region .

Nouakchott South was not established until November 25, 2014 when the Nouakchott region was divided into three new regions. wālī or governor is Rabbou Ould Bounenna .
