ICC Trophy 1979

The ICC Trophy 1979 was the qualifying tournament of the non-test nations for the Cricket World Cup 1979 . The tournament was played in England between May 22 and June 21, 1979. The winner was Sri Lanka, who beat Canada in the final with 5 runs. Both finalists qualified for the world championship.

A total of 15 associate members of the ICC took part in the tournament:

format

The 15 teams were divided into three groups of five teams each. The first in the group and the best second in the group qualified for the semi-finals. Their winners qualified for the final, the participants for the world championship.
