ISS-Expedition 47 is the mission name for the 47th long-term crew of the International Space Station (ISS). The mission began with the disengagement of the Soyuz TMA-18M spacecraft from the ISS on March 2, 2016. The end was marked by the disengagement of the Soyuz TMA-19M on June 18, 2016.
team
Taken over from ISS Expedition 46 :
- Timothy Lennart Kopra (2nd space flight), commander, ( USA / NASA , Soyuz TMA-19M )
- Timothy Peake (1st Spaceflight), Flight Engineer, ( United Kingdom / ESA , Soyuz TMA-19M)
- Yuri Ivanovich Malenchenko (6th space flight), flight engineer, ( Russia / Roskosmos , Soyuz TMA-19M)
Additionally from March 19, 2016:
- Alexei Nikolajewitsch Ovtschinin (1st space flight), flight engineer (Russia / Roskosmos, Soyuz TMA-20M )
- Oleg Iwanowitsch Skripotschka (2nd space flight), flight engineer (Russia / Roskosmos, Soyuz TMA-20M)
- Jeffrey Nels Williams (4th space flight), flight engineer (USA / NASA, Soyuz TMA-20M)
The day before the Soyuz TMA-19M undocked with Malenchenko, Peake and Kopra, Williams took command of the ISS . Together with Ovchinin and Skripotschka, he formed the initial crew of the subsequent Expedition 48 .
Substitute team
Since Expedition 20, no official replacement team has been announced due to the permanent training for the six-person crew. Unofficially, the backup crews of the two Soyuz feeder spaceships TMA-19M and TMA-20M (see there) are used as backup crews for Expedition 47. As a rule, these crews are deployed two missions later.
Freight traffic
The unmanned cargo spacecraft Cygnus CRS OA-6 (called "SS Rick Husband ") reached the station on March 26 and was attached to the Unity module using the Canadarm2 robotic arm . The spaceship carried supplies and hardware for Expeditions 47 and 48 to the ISS.
On March 30, the Progress M-29M was disconnected from the Zvezda module after almost six months .
The next spacecraft launched was Progress MS-02 for the ISS. After a two-day solo flight, the transporter docked at the Zvezda module on April 2.
The Dragon CRS-8 spaceship reached the ISS on April 10 and was attached to the Harmony module by Jeff Williams and Tim Peake using the Canadarm2 robotic arm . The cargo also included an inflatable living module from Bigelow Aerospace , the Bigelow Expandable Activity Module or BEAM for short , which was then installed on the ISS. It was the first Dragon flight to the ISS since the CRS-7 mission failed in June 2015.
Dragon CRS-8 was decoupled from the ISS on May 11th. Tim Peake removed the spaceship from the Harmony module using the Canadarm2 robotic arm and launched it into orbit at 13:19 UTC. The capsule watered safely in the Pacific Ocean five hours later .
Cygnus CRS OA-6 (called "SS Rick Husband ") was decoupled from the ISS on June 14th after almost 3 months in space.
