The series was seen as an important step towards normalizing Pakistani cricket. After the Pakistan Super League 2016/17 also held the final in Lahore in March , this was now the second event within a year that could be held without major incidents. Up to 20,000 security guards were deployed to ensure security. It was also the first time for some players of the Pakistani team that they played an international game on Pakistani soil.
