Indonesia AirAsia is an Indonesian low-cost airline based in Jakarta and based at Soekarno-Hatta Airport . It is a subsidiary of the Malaysian AirAsia .

history

The company was originally founded as Awair (Air Wagon International) in 1999 by Abdurrahman Wahid, chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Muslim Organization. He owned a 40% stake in the company, which he had to give up after his election as President of Indonesia in October 1999. Flight operations began on June 22, 2000 with Airbus A300 and A310 . In March 2002 flight operations were stopped. In December 2004 Awair resumed flights within Indonesia as an affiliate member of AirAsia. On December 1, 2005, Awair changed its name to Indonesia AirAsia. AirAsia owns 49% of the company.

Destinations

Indonesia AirAsia operates a regional route network within Indonesia as well as to Malaysia , Singapore and Thailand . Indonesia Air Asia is exempt from the landing ban for Indonesian airlines in the EU.
