Inga Humpe (born January 13, 1956 in Hagen ) is a German singer , composer and lyricist . With bands like Neonbabies , DÖF and Humpe & Humpe , she was one of the best-known musicians of the Neue Deutsche Welle . Today she forms the band 2raumwohnung with Tommi Eckart . She is the younger sister of Annette Humpe .

Life

origin

Humpe spent her childhood in Herdecke an der Ruhr, where her parents ran a pastry shop . After graduating from high school, she began studying art history and comparative literature at RWTH Aachen University in 1975 , but moved to Freie Universität Berlin the following year . She also attended the Max Reinhardt School from time to time to become an actress.

Act

After her first musical projects, Humpe founded the punk band Neonbabies in the late 1970s , in which she was active as a singer until 1983. Humpe became known to the general public as a member of the group DÖF with their hit Codo . In 1984 she and Gareth Jones produced the album Parlez-vous Schaumburg by Palais Schaumburg . From 1985 to 1988 she presented two albums with her older sister Annette Humpe , Humpe • Humpe and Swimming with Sharks . Both appeared as Humpe & Humpe , later they were awarded the 1 Live Krone for their life's work.

Humpe occasionally worked as a guest singer , including on recordings by the artists Stephan Remmler , Falco and Marc Almond . She also wrote the music for Petra Haffter's film The Kiss of the Tiger, for example . In 1989 Inga Humpe's first solo album was released under the title Planet Oz . In the mid-1990s she released the record Walls of Sugar under the name Bamby , which received positive reviews from critics, but did not come close to past projects commercially. With Ralf Hertwig she produced Shut Up (And Sleep with Me) by Sin with Sebastian in 1995 .

She has been in a relationship with Tommi Eckart since 1993 , who at the time was producing Andreas Dorau , on whose albums Humpe could be heard as a guest singer. In 2000 she and Eckart composed a song as part of a studio project, which was used for a television advertisement. Both initially worked under a pseudonym , later 2raumwohnung finally became the official name of the duo. The first album Comes Together was released in 2001, 36 Grad from 2007 was the most successful record commercially . By 2013 Humpe had produced a total of seven albums with her partner and was awarded three gold records . In 2005 they received the Golden Tuning Fork as the best duo.

Besides their own songs seemed Humpe with 2raumwohnung as a producer, for example, was created in 2004, the debut album Against the time of Toni Kater . In 2011 she recorded the piece A Heart Can't Repair for MTV Unplugged - Live from the Hotel Atlantic in a duet with Udo Lindenberg , which has won several platinum awards. Humpe wrote songs for Kylie Minogue and other artists, remixes were made for Ennio Morricone and Herbert Grönemeyer , for example . The soundtrack for Das Sams und Mädchen, Mädchen also comes from 2raumwohnung.

In the run-up to the best-of album and the 2020 live tour on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of 2raumwohnung, Humpe published a literary portrait with We met in a garden , which, among other things, describes the beginnings in the Sauerland. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung praised the author's “virtuoso story” in its review.

Others

Together with Eckart, she is a partner in the independent label it-sounds , based in Osnabrück , which has also published Toni Kater, EL * KE , Tito & Tarantula and Stephan Remmler . Humpe has lived in Berlin-Mitte with her partner Tommi Eckart since 1993 . She lives in the same house as Max Raabe , who also worked with her sister Annette.

Prices

As a member of 2raumwohnung Inga Humpe received various awards, including the Dance Music Award several times . In 2005 she and her sister Annette Humpe received the 1 Live Krone for their life's work . In May 2018 she was awarded the Fred Jay Prize for her song lyrics.
