Isaac J. MacCollum

Isaac James MacCollum (born August 18, 1889 in Fenwick Island , Delaware , † March 4, 1968 in Wyoming ) was an American physician and politician .

biography

MacCollum was born in Fenwick Island. He left West Chester Normal School, now known as West Chester University, in 1910 and completed his academic career at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia four years later .

During the First World War he worked on the medical advisory staff. In 1930 he became chairman of the Delaware State Medical Society. For nine years he worked as the administrator of the Delaware State Hospital.

His political career culminated in 1940 when he became Lieutenant Governor of Delaware . He was able to prevail against the opposing candidate from the ranks of the Republican Party, D. Willey, Jr. On January 21, 1941, MacCollum was sworn into office and wore it for almost four years, until January 19, 1945. During his term of office, that of Governor Walter W. Bacon fell . In 1944 he stood up against Bacon in order to be elected governor himself, but was unable to assert himself and made medicine the main focus of his life again.

He died in Wyoming on March 4, 1968.
