Joachim Kemmer (born September 12, 1939 in Brandenburg an der Havel ; † April 26, 2000 in Vienna ) was a German actor , cabaret artist , singer and voice actor .

Life

education

Joachim Kemmer grew up in Berlin . After graduating from school, he completed an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk . Since this job did not suit him, he attended the drama school "Der Kreis" (Fritz-Kirchhoff-Schule) in Berlin, encouraged by a friend, and also took singing lessons in Berlin and Vienna with Franz Schuch-Tovini . In addition, he completed dance training in the Mary Wigman studio in Berlin .

Theater, musical and cabaret

In 1964 Kemmer joined Dieter Kursawe and Käte Jaenicke in the cabaret Die Wühlmäuse, founded in 1960 by Dieter Hallervorden and Wilfried Herbst . Three years later he followed Kursawe into the ensemble of the politically oriented Reich Cabaret , which he had founded in 1965 together with Alexander Welbat and Siegrid Hackenberg as a split from the voles . Kemmer worked in numerous cabaret programs until 1972.

From 1968 Kemmer shifted his creative focus to spoken and music theater. He received engagements in Berlin, Vienna ( Theater an der Wien , Theater in der Josefstadt ), at the Münchner Kammerspiele and at the Salzburg Festival . From 1983 Kemmer belonged as Gus, the theater cat to the ensemble of the German-language musical Cats directed by Peter Weck . There he played next to Gus also the role of Bustopher Jones and Growltiger . In 1994 he played in Berlin on Theater of the West under the direction of Helmut Baumann to Cyrano de Bergerac in the German premiere of the Danish musical Cyrano .

Movie and TV

In 1971, Kemmer made his feature film debut in the horror film Bitten Will Only Be Night . Since then he has played in over 50 film and television productions, a. a. in the Simmel adaptation Lieb Vaterland may be calm , in Eberhard Itzenplitz 's adaptation to a destroyed illusion , in the east-west comedy Meier , alongside Götz George in Dominik Graf's thriller The Cat , in Axel Corti's drama Wohin und zurück - Santa Fé and Wohin und zurück - Welcome to Vienna , as a commissioner in the Edgar Wallace adaptations The Cat of Kensington , The Blind and The Carousel of Death , alongside Otto Waalkes in the comedy Otto - The New Film and alongside Robert Mitchum in the Norwegian drama Pakten . He played the main role in the crime series Blank Meier Jensen and the family series Edgar, Guardian of Morals . He also had numerous guest appearances in television series such as Derrick , Der Alte , Liebling Kreuzberg , Tatort and Das Traumschiff .

As a voice actor

In addition, Joachim Kemmer has worked extensively in dubbing since 1966 and lent his distinctive, rough voice, among others, to Humphrey Bogart in the re- dubbing of his films from the 1960s (including " Casablanca "). In addition, he dubbed internationally known fellow actors such as Richard Pryor ( inter alia. "Two incredibly strong guys"), Jeff Bridges ("King Kong"), John Cassavetes ( inter alia. "Isn't that my life?"), Willem Dafoe ("Live and die in LA "), Marty Feldman (including" Three Foreign Legionaries "and" Frankenstein Junior "), Richard Gere (" The Lonely Job "), Elliott Gould (including" Capricorn Company "), Anthony Hopkins (" The Girl from Petrowka ") , Harvey Keitel ("Taxi Driver"), Dean Martin (inter alia "The Daredevil Jockey") and Al Pacino (" Dick Tracy "). Kemmer Mark Wing-Davey spoke in the role of Zaphod Beeblebrox in the TV series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, first broadcast by the BBC in 1981 (based on the Douglas Adams book series of the same name ) .

In 1976, a curiosity arose from his dubbing work: while he embodied a journalist himself in the Simmel film “Dear Fatherland may be calm”, he lent his voice to the main character, played by the small actor Heinz Domez. In order to avoid the resulting confusion among the audience, Kemmer was again dubbed the role of journalist by Thomas Danneberg .

Kemmer also lent his voice to some characters in the more modern Disney films. Among them the Horned King in Taran and the Cauldron , Jafar in Aladdin , Ratcliffe in Pocahontas and Rafiki in the Lion King . Evergreens became the songs " Be here guest ", which Kemmer sang in the role of the candlestick Lumière in Beauty and the Beast and " Under the Sea ", for which Kemmer the crab Sebastian from Ariel, the mermaid (old synchronization) his voice borrowed. He was also heard as Rasputin in the 1997 20th Century Fox cartoon Anastasia .
