Roger John Anderson (* 14. February 1956 in Waukesha , Wisconsin ) is a former American American football poker players. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL) with the Green Bay Packers .

Player career

College career

John Anderson attended high school in his hometown . He studied from 1974 to 1977 at the University of Michigan , where he played as linebacker and punter football for the Michigan Wolverines . In his freshman year he lost with his team in the Orange Bowl against the University of Oklahoma 14: 6. In 1977 and 1978 he failed in the Rose Bowl with the Wolverines, in 1976 with 14: 6 at the University of Southern California and in 1977 with 27:20 at the team at the University of Washington . Anderson won with his team three times the championship of the Big Ten Conference and was chosen twice in the league selection. Because of his academic achievements, he was also voted All-American twice . He has received four awards from his college .

Professional career

Anderson was drafted in the first round in 1978 by the Green Bay Packers in 26th place . Even as a rookie , he was of Bart Starr , the head coach of the Packers in the defense of the team as a starter used. In his first year of play, he was able to achieve five interceptions . With this achievement he was in second place on the team's internal best list.

Anderson managed to move into the playoffs only once with the Packers during his professional career . In 1982, the Green Bay team won five out of nine games. Opponents in the NFC wild card play-off game were the St. Louis Cardinals , who could be defeated with 41:16. In the following NFC divisional play-off game, however, the Packers had to admit defeat to the Dallas Cowboys with 37:26.

John Anderson retired after the 1989 season. With 1020 tackle he was together with Ray Nitschke the record holder of the Green Bay Packers in this category.

After the playing career

After his playing career, John Anderson worked as a sports presenter for a US television station. Since 1998 he has been teaching geography at a school in Brookfield .

Honors

John Anderson is a member of the NFL 1980s All-Decade Team . He is the only player in this honorary team who has never played in a Pro Bowl or was voted All Pro . The Michigan and Wisconsin sports media voted him the Green Bay Packers MVP from 1982 to 1984 . The Packers inducted him into their Hall of Fame in 1996 .
