Joshua David "Josh" Hawley (* 31 December 1979 in Lexington , Missouri ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . Since January 3, 2019, he has served as one of two representatives of the State of Missouri to the United States Senate .

Life

Hawley grew up in Lexington and attended school in Kansas City . He earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford University and attended Yale Law School . Hawley specializes in constitutional law.

He represented parties before the Supreme Court twice . He represented Hobby Lobby in the Burwell v. Hobby Lobby , the court ruled in favor of the company that owners can cut their employees' contraceptive health insurance for religious reasons .

He ran for Missouri as a Senator in 2018 . He won the Republican primary on August 7, 2018 against five other candidates with 58.6%.
