Roy Blunt (born January 10, 1950 in Niangua , Webster County , Missouri ) is an American politician . He has been a Senator for Missouri in the United States Senate since January 2011 .

Life

After leaving school, Blunt studied history at Southwest Baptist University and Southwest Missouri State University . He is a member of the Republican Party . Between 1984 and 1993 he was Secretary of State of Missouri. From 1997 to 2011 he was a member of the House of Representatives of the United States , where he held the second-highest position in the Republican Group as Minority Whip from 2007 to 2009 . On November 2, 2010, he won the Senate election against Robin Carnahan . Blunt succeeded in the United States Senatelongtime Republican incumbent Kit Bond . Since he was confirmed in office in 2016, he will also represent his state in the US Senate for the next six years. His new term runs until January 3, 2023.

In 1967, Blunt married Roseann Ray, with whom he has three children. His son Matt Blunt was governor of the state of Missouri from 2005 to 2009 . After 35 years of marriage, they divorced in 2002. Blunt married Abigail Perlman in 2003. Together they adopted a child from Russia. Blunt lives in Strafford , Missouri.
