David W. Hopkins
David William Hopkins (born October 31, 1897 in Troy , Doniphan County , Kansas , † October 14, 1968 in Saint Joseph , Missouri ) was an American politician . Between 1929 and 1933 he represented the state of Missouri in the US House of Representatives .
Career
As early as 1899, David Hopkins came to Saint Joseph, Missouri with his parents as a toddler, where he later attended public schools. He then attended Graceland Academy in Lamoni ( Iowa ) until 1916 . In the final phase of the First World War he was a sergeant in a training unit of the US Army between October and December 1918 . After his short military service, Hopkins continued his own training until 1920 with a study at Iowa State University in Iowa City . He then studied until 1926 at the University of Missouri in Columbia . He had been a teacher in Saint Joseph since 1922. In 1928 and 1929 he was a school councilor in this city.
Politically, Hopkins was a member of the Republican Party . After the death of MP Charles L. Faust , he was elected as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC at the by-election due for the fourth seat of Missouri , where he took up his new mandate on February 5, 1929. At the same time as the by-election, he was also elected for the following legislative period. After further confirmation in 1930, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1933 . This time was shaped by the events of the Great Depression.
In 1932, Hopkins was defeated by Democrat Jacob L. Milligan . After leaving the US House of Representatives, he worked in the insurance industry. Between 1937 and 1967 he was a member of the Saint Joseph Education Committee. David Hopkins died on October 14, 1968 in Saint Joseph, where he was also buried.
