Jozef Boons

Jozef "Jos" Boons (born February 13, 1943 in Vorst ; † December 15, 2000 in Laakdal ) was a Belgian cyclist .

In 1964 Jos Boons started at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in the road race and finished in 38th place. In the same year he became the Belgian amateur road champion. The following year he moved to the pros and became a member of the Flandria-Romeo team , which also included 1963 world champion Benoni Beheyt .

In 1965 Boons won the Tour of Flanders in the U23 class. In 1967 he was Belgian road champion. He was denied any further major successes. In 1972 he ended his sporting career.

In 1987 Jos Boons, who worked for a chemical company, suffered severe burns in an accident at work. He had to be operated 28 times. In December 2000, he was killed in a car accident.
