Young stage Mainz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Junge Bühne Mainz is an independent theater in Mainz which, with a young ensemble of up-and-coming actors, produces and presents several productions in the “ Young Drama ” and “ Children's and Youth Theater ” categories each season . The free theater Junge Bühne Mainz emerged from classical theater education and is now one of the free theater stages in the Rhine-Main area. The repertoire of both branches includes classical theater pieces as well as self-developed pieces.

history

The roots of the free youth theater Junge Bühne Mainz lie in the former theater-play workshop at the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden . From 2006 to 2008 the first small projects were realized there under the direction of theater pedagogue Verena Gerlach as part of theater pedagogical workshops and workshop work. When the theater-game workshop of the Wiesbaden State Theater disbanded in 2008, the ensemble of young actors between 15 and 20 years of age started their own business as a so-called free group and from then on called itself Junge Bühne Mainz / Wiesbaden. In the first years of existence, the pieces were created as part of workshops and courses in which young people between the ages of 15 and 20 interested in theater took part.

The ensemble developed new projects, but initially had to get by without a permanent venue, so that the developed pieces were initially shown at various venues in the Hessian state capital Wiesbaden and the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital Mainz , which is in the immediate vicinity . In the late summer of 2009, the ensemble finally moved to Mainz, where the independent theater group was offered a new venue in the M8-Bühne cultural center (in the Mainz Youth House ). As a result, the ensemble called itself only Junge Bühne Mainz. The first premiere at the new venue took place in June 2010 with the self-written piece “Save me!”.

present

Since the beginning of 2011 , the Junge Bühne Mainz has developed under a restructured management into a small repertoire theater that specializes in productions for children, teenagers and young adults. Another target group is formed by people of all ages interested in theater.

Since January 2011 the actor and director Philip Barth has been the artistic and directing director as well as a partner of the Junge Bühne Mainz GbR. The theater pedagogue Verena Gerlach was also a partner until the end of the 2017 season; at the beginning of the 2018 season, the actress and ethnologist Nazife Ilhan succeeded her as partner. The program and the repertoire have been consistently expanded and expanded since 2011. The M8 stage in the Haus der Jugend Mainz became the permanent home of the Junge Bühne Mainz through a cooperation agreement. In December 2018, with the reopening of the KUZ Kulturzentrum Mainz, another venue was added, which the Junge Bühne Mainz-Ensemble, as well as other independent theater ensembles in the Rhine-Main area, has since played.

A season is based on the calendar year. In addition, a consistent professionalization of the ensemble has been implemented since 2011. Today the ensemble consists of young actors as well as ambitious and experienced semi-professionals who have the opportunity to gain their first professional work experience in the field of theater acting at the independent theater Junge Bühne Mainz . The young German actors Carola Schnell and Tom Gramenz also gained their first professional theater experience here from 2011 to 2013 and were also guests of the ensemble until summer 2014.

Each year the ensemble works on several productions in the areas of “ drama ” and “ children's and youth theater ”. One focus is the contemporary staging of classics as well as own stage adaptations of narrative material. In addition to the new productions, resumption of pieces that have already been rehearsed as well as small projects (readings, improvisations) are included in the program of a season. The members of the ensemble are not only active as actors, but also take on other tasks in the areas of stage design , costumes , assistant director , dramaturgy and technology .
