Karataş ( Turkish for black stone ) is a city and a district in the Adana province of Turkey , directly on the Mediterranean Sea , at the southernmost point of the Çukurova lowlands. Karataş is 47 kilometers south of Adana and had 12,354 inhabitants at the end of 2012. The population of the district, which has had the same area and population as the municipality since 2013, was 24,559 at the end of 2018.
Nearby is the ancient Magarsos (the port of Mallos ) at the ancient confluence of the Ceyhan in the Gulf of İskenderun .

There is a city partnership with Memmingen . In Memmingen a street in the north industrial area was named after Karataş, in Karataş there has been a Memmingen Bulvarı directly on the Mediterranean beach since 2001 .
