Yumurtalık is a seaside resort in the south of Turkey and capital of the same district of the province of Adana . Since a regional reform in 2014, the municipality (Belediye) and the district (İlçe) are congruent. Yumurtalık is about 80 km from the city of Adana on the Gulf of İskenderun .
Yumurtalık was called Ayas in Ottoman times.
Worth seeing
In ancient times the place of today's Yumurtalık was Aigeai , in the Middle Ages the name was Ayas. A lake and a country castle as well as a tower located about one kilometer to the west by the sea have been preserved. In 1994 the late Hittite stele of Yumurtalık was found during construction work .
The Kurtkulağı caravanserai is located about 20 kilometers northeast in the town of the same name .
