Karl Schweitzer (born August 7, 1952 in Sankt Michael im Burgenland ) is an Austrian teacher and politician ( FPÖ , BZÖ ).

Life

After completing his teaching degree for geography and physical exercise at the University of Graz , Karl Schweitzer worked as a teacher at the Federal Commercial Academy and Federal Commercial School Oberwart . In 1985 he was appointed to the OECD teaching team for environmental and school initiatives.

Since September 2007 Karl Schweitzer has been teaching at the BHAK / BHAS Oberwart again. Karl Schweitzer has retired as a teacher since December 1st, 2012.

In September 2009 he was elected President of the Basketball Bundesliga .

politics

From 1990 to 2003 he was a member of the National Council , from 1995 to 1996 he was also a member of the European Parliament . In 1996 he held the position of Federal Managing Director of the FPÖ. From 2003 to the beginning of 2007 Schweitzer was State Secretary for Sport in the Federal Chancellery in the Federal Government Schüssel II .

Schweitzer was criticized by political competitors for making homophobic statements.
