Killah Priest (born August 17, 1970 in Brooklyn , New York ; real name Walter Reed ) is an American rapper . He belongs to the Wu-Tang Clan and is a member of the groups Sunz Of Man , Black Market Militia and The HRSMEN . Stylistically, it is in the area of East Coast hip-hop and hardcore rap .
Life
Killah Priest came into contact with hip-hop as a child as he grew up exclusively in New York State. There he was influenced by local rappers like GZA , who often performed at parties here. He then started rapping himself and achieved quite a reputation in Brooklyn. However, before he pursued his music career further, he took a break in which he mainly dealt with religion and history.
This lasted until 1995 - but then he appeared on numerous projects of the Wu-Tang Clan, most notably on Ol 'Dirty Bastards Return To The 36 Chambers or GZAs Liquid Swords . At the end of 1996 he founded his own group, Sunz Of Man, before being signed by Geffen Records in 1997 at the suggestion of GZA . For his debut album, he worked with producers related to the Wu-Tang Clan. Heavy Mental was able to advance to number 24 on the Billboard 200 . The next album, released in the spring of 2000, could not repeat the success, however, which resulted in a change of record label . Priesthood was released in 2001 by Proverbs and Black in August 2003 by Recon Records, before he concentrated on working with his groups Black Market Militia and The HORSEMEN, as well as on guest appearances. Another solo album followed in 2007. The Offering has now been released on Babygrande Records . In 2008 he released another solo album, Behind The Stained Glass , as well as a collaboration album with Chief Kamachi , which was titled Beautiful Minds .
