history

View of the "Seepark Kirchheim"

The village of Kirchheim was first mentioned as Kyricheim in the Breviarium Lulli , a tithing list of the Hersfeld Monastery around 810.

Kirchheim received the railway connection on May 1, 1906, when the Knüllwaldbahn was opened. From 1935 the community had the motorway connection when the motorway triangle of the motorways A 7 and A 4 was created.

In 1974 the construction of the "Seepark Kirchheim" between the districts of Reimboldshausen and Kemmerode began. Here the Ibra was dammed into a ten hectare lake. Just one year later, Kreisstrasse 34 was built from Willingshain over the Eisenberg to Raboldshausen (district of Neuenstein ). After this traffic-related development of the Eisenberg followed in the same year the construction of a mountain hotel, the construction of the "Feriendorf am Eisenberg" by the city of Hanover and the construction of the radio tower.

On August 22nd, 1977 the dam of the Ibrastausees broke in the "Seepark Kirchheim" and undermined the railway line near Kirchheim. This was the reason for the Federal Railroad to shut down the Knüllwaldbahn .

Incorporations

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the previously independent communities of Allendorf, Frielingen, Gershausen, Goßmannsrode, Kemmerode and Reimboldshausen were incorporated into the Kirchheim community on a voluntary basis with effect from February 1, 1971. With effect from December 31, 1971, Rotterterode followed. Gersdorf, Heddersdorf, Reckerode and Willingshain were added by law on August 1, 1972.
