The Zala county (Hungarian vármegye Zala , Latin comitatus Zaladiensis ) was a historic administrative unit (county / county) in the Kingdom of Hungary .
The area is located in today's southwestern Hungary on the area of today's counties Zala and Veszprém as well as in the northern part of Croatia (in the area of today's Međimurje County ) and in northeastern Slovenia (around the place Lendava ).

The county bordered the Austrian crown land of Styria and the Hungarian counties Eisenburg ( Vas ), Wesprim ( Veszprém ), Somogy , Belovár-Kőrös and Varasd (the latter two belonged to the Kingdom of Croatia and Slavonia ). In the south the Drava was the natural border, in the east the Balaton , and the Mur and the Zala flowed through the area .
history
The county was established in the 11th century and existed in this form until 1918. The southwestern part, the so-called Murinsel , was ceded to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes in 1919 ( confirmed under international law by the Treaty of Trianon in 1920). Due to the large Komitatsreform 1950 a part of came Vas County north of the city Zalaegerszeg added to Komitatsgebiet, in return, the area of the north was Balaton the Veszprém County slammed shut. The cities of Čakovec and Prelog are in present-day Croatia , Lendava in present-day Slovenia , and all other places in present-day Hungary .
