La Bamba is the soundtrack to the 1987 film of the same name by Luis Valdez about the short career of rock 'n' roll singer Ritchie Valens . The majority of the pieces were recorded by the American band Los Lobos . The album reached the top of the American charts.

Music genre

Since the album is the soundtrack to a biographical film about rock 'n' roll singer Ritchie Valens, song selection is stuck in rock 'n' roll of the 1950s. Other stylistic classifications such as Tex-Mex or Latin are also due to the main character of the film, who came from the Californian Chicano community.

History of origin

Los Lobos had already released two critically acclaimed but not very successful albums by the time they were signed to record the soundtrack. Eight of the twelve songs were recorded by Los Lobos. There were also titles by Howard Huntsbury , Marshall Crenshaw , Brian Setzer and Bo Diddley . Other songs that appeared in the film but did not find their way onto the soundtrack were Rip It Up , Oh Boy , The Paddi Wack Song , Sleepwalk , Pajaro Loco , Abuelitos Cortos , Ready Teddy , I Got a Gal Named Sue (That's My Little Suzie) , Don't You Just Know It , For Your Precious Love , Bakersfield Shuffle , Blue Tango , Cancion Mixteca , Armida , Corrido del Compadre , Chantilly Lace , Betty Jean Tweedlee Dee , Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and Over the Mountain, Across the Sea .
