coat of arms
description
The coat of arms, which the district had due to ministerial approval from June 15, 1962 until its dissolution in 1972, is split from gold to black. In the right half of the shield a left-facing, black, red armored lion covered with a silver sloping left bar, in the left half of the shield on a silver floor a golden unicorn that jumps out from behind a silver conifer.
meaning
The lion stands for the bishopric of Bamberg , which owned the majority of the district area before secularization. The unicorn is the symbol of the knight canton of Steigerwald . The free Frankish imperial knighthood grouped in the knightly canton of Steigerwald also had extensive possessions in the Höchstadt area.
After the dissolution of the district of Höchstadt, the Bamberg lion was incorporated into the new district coat of arms of the district of Erlangen-Höchstadt.
License Plate
On July 1, 1956, the district was assigned the HÖS distinctive sign when the license plates that are still valid today were introduced . It was issued until August 3, 1974. Due to the license plate liberalization , it has been available in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district since February 2, 2015.
