Laoshan Velodrome

The Laoshan Velodrome is a cycling track in Beijing . It was built on the occasion of the 2008 Summer Olympics and the 2008 Summer Paralympics as a sports facility for track cycling .

The Laoshan Velodrome is located on a 32,920 square meter site in the Shijingshan district of Beijing . Construction work on the velodrome began on October 30, 2004. The velodrome is a steel construction and measures 133 by 180 meters. The three floors are 33.80 meters high. The building has space for 6,000 spectators, for whom 3,000 additional seats have been created that will be removed after the Olympic Games and Paralympics. The wooden track in the middle of the building is 250 meters long. The plate-shaped roof structure is located above it . The roof is interrupted in the middle by a glass dome with a diameter of 56 meters, which lets light into the velodrome and was constructed in such a way that no disruptive light reflections occur on the track. The cycling track / piste was planned by the Münster architect Ralph Schürmann . The building design comes from the Berlin architect Wolfgang Keuthage, architects WKA, together with Ralph Schürmann.

On December 9, 2007, the UCI Track Cycling World Cup Classics took place in the Laoshan Velodrome . This was used as a test competition for the Olympic Games and the Paralympics . Several races of the Track Cycling World Cup have been held here. In addition to these major events, the velodrome will primarily be used as a training facility.
