The Latorica ( Ukrainian Латориця / Latoryzja; Hungarian Latorca ) is a river in western Ukraine ( Zakarpattia Oblast ) and eastern Slovakia in the catchment area of the Tisza .
It rises near the village of Latirka in Wolowez Rajon in the Carpathian Forest , then flows south to the town of Swaljawa , further in a south-westerly direction to Mukachevo and from there to the Ukrainian-Slovakian border at Solomonowo and Ptrukša in a partly canalised shape to the west. On Slovak territory it flows further through the East Slovak lowlands south of Veľké Kapušany and north around the town of Kráľovský Chlmec to the junction with the Ondava River , before the Laborec flows into it. From the confluence with the Ondava it is called Bodrog and finally flows into the Tisza in Tokaj in Hungary .
The total length of the river is 188 kilometers (other counting methods also speak of 204 kilometers) of which 156.6 kilometers (83%) are in Ukraine and 31.4 kilometers (17%) in Slovakia. The entire water catchment area is 3130 km², 94% of this area is in Ukraine. At the town of Chop the river has a flow rate of 37 m³ / s, at the confluence with the Ondava it is 86.8 m³ / s.
On the Slovak side, the river basin is protected by the 231.98 km² Latorica nature reserve.
