Leuro is an East Timorese village and Suco in the administrative office of Lospalos ( Lautém municipality ).

The place

The village of Leuro is located in the center of Sucos at an altitude of 319  m . In the immediate vicinity of Leuro is the village of Luturula ( German:  end of the stone wall ). Here is the only primary school in sucos. On some maps, the places are listed as a place under the name Luturula.

Leuro has 812 inhabitants (2015), of which 407 are men and 405 women. The population density is 34.2 inhabitants / km². There are 180 households in the Suco. Over 97% of the residents state Fataluku as their mother tongue. Minorities speak Makasae or Tetum Prasa .

Before the regional reform in 2015, Leuro had an area of ​​21.93 km². Now there are 23.76 km². The Suco is located in the west of the Lospalos administrative office. In the north it borders on Suco Home , in the east on Souro , in the south on Cacavei and in the west on the Lautém administrative office with its Sucos Maina II . The river Malailada forms the border with Lautém . The supraregional road from Lospalos to Iliomar crosses the Suco from northeast to southwest . The town of Leuro is on the road, as are the villages of Soro Kecil (east of Leuro), Savarica and Cacavei Lama ( Cacaven Lama , southwest of Leuro). To the north are the villages of Soronaureci and Leuro Lama , to the southeast the village of Soro Moco ( Souro Moc ).

The four Aldeias Leuro , Luturula , Soro Moco and Tcharano are located in Leuro .

history

Between August 5 and 8, 1983, hundreds of members of armed militias ( Wanra , Hansip ) from Mehara , Lore , Leuro and Serelau deserted and joined FALINTIL . The Indonesians carried out punitive actions in their hometowns . Hundreds of women and others who were left behind were rounded up on trucks and interned for several months. Torture and rape occurred. Several hundred families were later forcibly relocated to the island of Atauro .

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Manuel da Costa was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections , Alarico Lopes Fernandes won .
