According to § 27 of the German BNatSchG , nature parks are large areas that are to be developed and maintained in a uniform manner. They should predominantly be landscape or nature reserves, have a large variety of species and biotopes and a landscape characterized by diverse uses.

There have been nature parks in Baden-Württemberg since the Schönbuch was designated the state's first nature park in 1972. Baden-Württemberg currently has the following seven nature parks:

The Geo-Naturpark Bergstrasse-Odenwald is located in Hesse , Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. The regional nature park Schaffhausen is a cross-border nature park in Switzerland and in Baden-Württemberg in Germany.
