The list of South Korean nominations for the Oscar nomination in the category of best international film (until 2019 best foreign language film ) tops all films submitted for South Korea to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) for the category of best international film . A special committee formed by the Korean Film Council selects the South Korean entry.
Until the beginning of the 21st century , only a few South Korean contributions were submitted. In 2019, Burning was the first time a South Korean contribution was shortlisted . A year later, a South Korean film won the award for the first time, Bong Joon-ho's Parasite . The film also received the main prize for best film , best director and best screenplay .
