Ludwig Strecker also Ludwig Strecker the Younger (born January 13, 1883 in Mainz , † September 15, 1978 in Wiesbaden ) was a German music publisher.

biography

Strecker completed a law degree at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , the Humboldt University in Berlin and the University of Leipzig , where he received his doctorate in 1906 .

After a stay abroad he became co-owner of the music publisher B. Schott's Sons in Mainz in 1909 , which his father Ludwig Strecker the Elder had inherited from Franz Schott in 1874 .

When his father died in 1943, Ludwig Strecker and his brother Wilhelm Strecker (also Willy S .; * July 4, 1884 Mainz; † March 1, 1958 Wiesbaden) took over the management of the publishing house. Since 1956 he has been in charge of it.

Ludwig Strecker was a committed supporter of contemporary composers such as Werner Egk , Paul Hindemith and Carl Orff . He also worked as a librettist under the pseudonym Ludwig Andersen .

Another brother of Ludwig Strecker was the set designer and author Paul Strecker .

Strecker was married to Friedel Preetorius (1884–1938), the daughter of the Mainz entrepreneur Wilhelm Preetorius . In 1968 he married Maria Daelen-Strecker , who grew up in Wiesbaden , a doctor and government official.
