Rosset was already successful as a youth and was ranked fourth in the junior world rankings. In 1989 he won his first professional tournament in Geneva on clay in the final against the Argentine Guillermo Pérez Roldán . He is unusually tall (2.01 m) for a tennis player, but was one of the most feared servers on the tour. For many years it held the record for the fastest measured impact at 215 km / h. He achieved a total of 15 individual tournament wins on all surfaces. His highest world ranking in singles was in September 1995 with position 9, his best score in doubles was position 8 in 1992.
His greatest success in a Grand Slam tournament singles was reaching the semi-finals at the French Open 1996. Rosset was also successful in doubles, winning eight doubles titles. His long-time doubles partner was his compatriot Jakob Hlasek , with whom he won the French Open doubles in 1992.
In 1992 Rosset reached the final with the Swiss Davis Cup team , but there the Swiss lost to the United States with 1: 3. From 2002 to 2005 he was the captain of the Swiss Davis Cup team. In 1996 he won the World Team Cup in Düsseldorf with the Swiss team . At the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 he defeated the Spaniard Jordi Arrese in five sets in the men's singles final and surprisingly became Olympic champion. At that time he was the only Swiss citizen to win an Olympic medal. In October 2005 he completed his last appearance on the professional tour in the double competition at the Swiss Indoors , his last individual game he played in February 2005 at the Challenger tournament in Lübeck . Then he ended his professional career.
In September 1998, Rosset narrowly escaped the crash of Swissair Flight 111 over Nova Scotia. After leaving the US Open, he had rebooked at short notice. Rosset also caused a stir with his momentous outburst of anger: In the final of the Hopman Cup 1996, he and Martina Hingis led in the decisive third set against the doubles Goran Ivanišević and Iva Majoli . Angry about four match points that had been awarded, he hit a gang violently with his fist. Due to an injury, he had to give up because of that, and was later diagnosed with a hairline crack in his hand.
