Marius Ebbers (born January 4, 1978 in Essen ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer coach .

Career

Ebbers in the jersey of FC St. Pauli (2011)

At the age of six, Ebbers began playing football for Preußen Steele , and at the age of eight he played for SG Wattenscheid 09 . At the age of 15 he left the SG and switched to Schwarz-Weiß Essen . Three years later he went to MSV Duisburg , where he then also completed his first assignments as a professional. In 1999 he moved back to SG Wattenscheid, for which he scored 23 goals in 33 games in the Regionalliga West / Southwest and was the top scorer. After the dissolution of the Regionalliga West / Südwest, he joined the SG Wattenscheid in the North relay. There he scored 15 goals (17 appearances) in the first half of the season. Then the MSV Duisburg brought him back after 18 months. There he became a top scorer too, which is why 1. FC Köln signed him in 2003. After 1. FC Köln had signed two new attackers, Peter Madsen and Imre Szabics , Ebbers moved to Alemannia Aachen before the start of the 2005/06 season . When he had overcome a form weakness there, he found back to his old strength in the second half of the season. In the 4-2 away win at Offenbacher Kickers , he scored four goals in one half, including a flawless hat trick . With 13 goals this season, he helped Alemannia to return to the Bundesliga after 36 years. In his third first division season he then played 27 games for Aachen, but in 2007 they were relegated to the second division.

After the 2007/08 season he moved to FC St. Pauli , for whom he scored his first two goals on the seventh matchday at home against his old club Alemannia Aachen. In the 2009/10 season , with 20 goals this season , he played a major role in the club's promotion to the first division . After direct relegation, he returned to the second division with FC St. Pauli in the 2011/12 season . On March 15, 2013 Ebbers scored his 100th goal in the second division in a game against 1. FC Union Berlin (2-4). In total, he hit the net 108 times in the two highest German leagues.

After Ebbers' contract with FC St. Pauli was not renewed after the 2012/13 season , he joined VfL 93 Hamburg in September 2013 . In the sixth class Landesliga Hamburg he scored 13 goals in 16 games by the end of March 2014. On March 25, 2014, he moved to the US North American Soccer League to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers . He received a contract for the 2014 spring season . Ebbers played his first game on April 13, 2014 in a 2-0 win over Ottawa Fury . He scored his only goal in the 3-2 win on April 26, 2014 in the game against the team of Indy Eleven . Overall, Ebbers was used in eight out of nine games. He then returned to Hamburg and joined the fifth division club SC Victoria Hamburg . He was active there until 2017, scored 60 goals in 78 championship games and then ended his active career.

After his career ended, Ebbers joined the fifth division's coaching staff as an assistant coach and worked as such until he left in summer 2018. After Ebbers was back as assistant coach at Victoria Hamburg in January 2019, he took over the team as head coach for the 2019/20 season.

Ebbers was a player in the German small field team.

Fair play

On April 10, 2012 Ebbers scored a hand and head in the game against 1. FC Union Berlin . The referee Tobias Welz was too far away and could not see the handball from his position and recognized the goal. But when he asked Ebbers whether the ball had touched his hand, Ebbers immediately admitted it. Then the goal (it would have been the 2-1 opening goal) was withdrawn. St. Pauli won the game with a goal from Fin Bartels in stoppage time.

In October 2012, Ebbers was for this behavior by the DFB with the DFB medal Fair is more excellent.
