Martin Röber (born February 9, 1583 in Wurzen ; † November 15, 1633 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Martin Röber was born as the son of the furrier and quarter master in Wurzen Martin Röber the Elder. Ä. and his wife Cristina Held († December 1, 1611 in Halle (Saale)), daughter of the baron Schönburg court preacher Paul Held (* 1520 in Luckenwalde; † 1588 in Burgstädt). He was a brother of the Wittenberg theologian Paul Röber , with whom he had received training from private teachers and attended the city school of his birthplace. He then attended the Thomas School in Leipzig and began studying theology at the University of Leipzig , with Zacharias Schilter , Burchard Harbart and Matthäus Dresser , among others .

He later moved to Jena , where he received a position as private tutor from his uncle, the former Austrian-Carinthian court preacher and later superintendent in Arnstadt, Paul Held (* 1552 in Laußig; † January 26, 1602 in Arnstadt). At that time he was particularly impressed by the lectures given by Ambrosius Reuden at the University of Jena . In 1601 he moved to the University of Wittenberg , where Aegidius Hunnius the Elder , Salomon Gesner , David Runge and Leonhard Hutter became his teachers in the field of theology. Here he obtained on September 18, 1605 the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. On July 3, 1608 he was ordained pastor in Böhlitz and Collmen in Wurzen . On September 15, 1610, the Wittenberg consistory gave him the order to take over the parish in Röcknitz , and on July 6, 1611 he moved to the St. Ulrichs Church in Halle (Saale) as pastor . In 1632 Johannes Botvidi (1575-1635) appointed him assessor of the newly established royal Magdeburg consistory . He worked in Halle until the end of his life and was buried in the town church's field there.

Röber was married to Anna Lindner (born September 16, 1587 in Leipzig; † April 3, 1643 in Halle (Saale)), the daughter of the Wurzen citizen and baker Martin Lindner, since October 22, 1605. The marriage resulted in 14 children, eight sons and six daughters, eight of whom had died before his death. From the children we know:
