Mary Coughlan (politician)
Mary Coughlan ( Irish : Máire Ní Chochláinn ; born May 1, 1965 in Donegal , County Donegal ) is an Irish politician of the Fianna Fáil party.
From 1987 to 2011 she was an MP ( Teachta Dála ) in the Dáil Éireann , the lower house of the Irish Parliament , and there one of three representatives for the constituency of Donegal South West .
As a cabinet minister, she was responsible for:
- Social affairs and family (2002-2004)
- Agriculture and Fisheries (2004–2008)
- Trade and Employment (2008-2010)
- Upbringing and Education (2010-2011)
From May 7, 2008 to March 9, 2011, she was also Tánaiste and thus Vice Prime Minister of Ireland.
