Max Planck Research Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Max Planck Research Prize promoted international collaborations between German and foreign scientists, "from whom further top scientific achievements are expected within the framework of international collaborations". Since 2018, it has been awarded in a different form and as the Max Planck Humboldt Research Prize to "outstanding scientific achievements by promising research personalities from abroad".

history

The program started in 1990 and annually honors numerous scientists from various disciplines. In 1995 the number of award winners was limited to 12 scientists a year, each receiving 125,000 euros (or 250,000  DM ).

From 2004 to 2016, the award was only given to one researcher working in Germany and one abroad, along with prize money of 750,000 euros each, with the topic being advertised annually between sub-areas of natural and engineering sciences, life sciences and humanities.

After the award in 2016, the award was replaced by the Max Planck Humboldt Research Award, which was awarded jointly with the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and has been awarded annually to a person from abroad since 2018 and with prize money of 80,000 euros plus 1.5 Million euros for setting up and leading a research group in Germany.

A joint, independent selection committee of the Max Planck Society and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation decides on the award winners . The prize money is provided by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research .
