geography

Maxglan West is located on the western outskirts of Salzburg, about 3½ kilometers from the city center. The district includes the localities of the city that lie behind the airport . These are:

Neighborhoods and districts
Schwarzenberg barracks (Gem.  Wals-Siezenheim , district Sbg.-Umg. ) * Maxglan
Himmelreich (Gem. Salzburg and  Wals-Siezenheim , district Sbg.-Umg. ) Neighboring communities
Viehhausen (Gem.  Wals-Siezenheim , District Sbg.-Umg. ) Leopoldskroner moss
*behind the Taxham runway

history

The area originally belonged to the municipality of Wals , and was incorporated into Salzburg in 1935, where it then belonged to the Maxglan district . Today the area, which is largely isolated from the city by the airport, is calculated independently and is strongly oriented towards Wals. In 1967 the district with Salzburg-St. Vitalis also has its own Catholic parish in the Kendler settlement . Wals-Viehhausen also looks after them , and since the new dean's office in 2011 it no longer belongs to the city dean's office of Salzburg , but to the parish association Großgmain – Wals – Walserfeld – Siezenheim of the Bergheim dean's office , so that in this respect, too, this urban area is growing even more closely to the surrounding communities. With today's joint spatial planning for Salzburg and the surrounding area , the actual municipal boundaries only play a subordinate role.
