Maxie Parks

Maxie Parks (actually Maxwell Lander Parks; born July 9, 1951 in Arkansas City , Arkansas ) is a former American sprinter who was successful in the 400-meter run in the 1970s .

He won two national championships: 1976 in Westwood with his personal best of 44.82 s and 1978 in 45.15 s. There is also a third place in 1977 (45.81 s) and a fourth place in 1973 (45.9 s).

After he won the US eliminations in 45.38 s in 1976, he started at the Olympic Games in Montreal . Like his compatriots Fred Newhouse and Herman Frazier , he reached the finals and finished fifth in 45.24 s, while Newhouse and Frazier won the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

All three athletes then competed together with Benny Brown in the 4 x 400 meter relay . With Parks as the final runner, the team won the gold medal in 2: 58.65 minutes ahead of Poland (silver in 3: 01.43 minutes).

Maxie Parks started out at the University of California, Los Angeles while he was in college . As a member of a committee responsible for the organization of indoor championships at university level, he is still associated with sport today.
