Ray Armstead

Raymond "Ray" Ricky Armstead (born May 27, 1960 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is a retired American athlete and Olympic champion .

In 1982 Armstead had a best time in the 400-meter run of 46.13 s. In 1984 he was able to qualify as fourth-best runner for the relay at the trials for the 1984 Olympic Games . In the final, Sunder Nix started and was behind the Nigerian and Australian starters. Ray Armstead in second was able to overtake the Nigerian, but was still behind second Australian Darren Clark . The third runner for the USA was the Olympic champion in the individual race Alonzo Babers , who took a clear lead. Goalkeeper Antonio McKay was able to keep the lead to the finish, the winning time was 2: 57.91 min. Silver went to the British ahead of Nigeria and Australia. For the first time in a race in the 4 x 400 meter relay, four teams stayed under three minutes.

Ray Armstead set his personal best of 44.83 s in 1984 at the Weltklasse Zürich meeting .
