Meghan Elizabeth Klingenberg (born August 2, 1988 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania ) is an American national soccer player who has been playing for NWSL participant Portland Thorns FC since the 2016 season .

Career

Klingenberg was in college - Draft for the 2011 season of the WPS - Franchise of magicJack obliged but switched in June after just two league appearances in exchange for Nikki Washington to league rivals Boston Breakers . After the dissolution of the WPS, she first played for the Western New York Flash in the WPSL Elite in 2012 before switching to Damallsvenskan participant Tyresö FF and immediately celebrating the championship in her first season in Sweden. After losing 3: 4 to defending champion VfL Wolfsburg in the 2014 Champions League final , Klingenberg moved to NWSL newcomer Houston Dash . National team

Klingenberg played for the US U-16, U-17, U-20 and U-23 teams. In January 2011 it was used for the first time for the USA's A selection as part of the four-nation tournament . After she had no international appearances in 2012, she was called back to the national team in 2013 and also took part in the 2014 Algarve Cup . She scored her first international goal in a 6-0 win against Haiti in the last group game of the 2014 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup, which made it 3-0. Klingenberg was also called up for the US squad for the 2015 World Cup . She was used in all seven games and did not miss a minute. She became world champion for the first time by beating Japan in the final.

She was also part of the roster for the 2016 Summer Olympics qualifier , which the United States won, and was used in all five games.
