The Mercedes-Platz is a square in Berlin district of Friedrichshain between the mill road and railway facilities to Ostbahnhof near the Warsaw road and railway stations. The most important building is the Mercedes-Benz Arena in the rear .

Location and facilities

Mercedes-Platz is located in the center of the entertainment district on the East Side Gallery . The south side is only a few meters away from the famous graffiti motif " Socialist Brotherly Kiss ", directly opposite the Spree . To the east is the East Side Mall and Warschauer Strasse train station . A field of fountains illuminated in changing colors forms the center of the square and leads to the entrance of the Mercedes-Benz Arena . In addition to around 20 restaurants, the district offers the Verti Music Hall concert hall , a bowling center and a multiplex premiere cinema as well as three hotels. A public underground car park offers around 400 parking spaces.

construction time

The construction time of the Mercedes-Platz was almost two and a half years. On June 6, 2016, construction work began with the groundbreaking ceremony. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on October 24, 2017.

opening

On the eve of the official opening, on Friday, October 12, 2018, the first event took place in the Verti Music Hall with the concert by Jack White . On October 13, 2018, Mercedes-Platz was officially opened with a large event including fireworks. At a ceremony handed Ramona Pop (Mayor of Berlin and Senator for Economy, Energy and companies) and Britta Seeger (Member of the Board of Daimler AG, responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales) and Dan Beckerman (President & CEO Anschutz Entertainment Group ) the Mercedes-Platz to the citizens of Berlin.
