Merrily We Live is a song from the soundtrack of the screwball comedy How We Live Happily! (Original title Merrily We Live ). The song was composed by Phil Charig , and the text was written by Arthur Quenzer . The song was played during the opening and closing credits of the film, sung by an off-screen choir.

Merrily We Live received an Oscar nomination for "Best Song" in 1939 , but had to give way to Ralph Rainger and Leo Robin with their song Thanks for the Memory from the comedy film The Big Broadcast of 1938 . The film Merrily We Live was also nominated for an Oscar in four other categories ("Best Supporting Actress", "Best Camera", "Best Equipment", "Best Sound"). He did not win in these categories either.
