The Metalfest is a multi-day music festival held in several European countries .
It takes place in Germany , Croatia , Austria , Italy , Switzerland , the Czech Republic , Poland and Hungary annually in May and June.
Locations
In Germany, the festival takes place on the Loreley rock near Sankt Goarshausen . In Croatia, the festival site is on the Puntamika peninsula near the city of Zadar . The old venue in Austria was near Mining . The new location is not yet known, but the first pictures can be seen on the homepage. The other locations are in Milan (Italy), Pratteln (Switzerland), Plzeň (Czech Republic) and Jaworzno (Poland).
Until 2012, the festival took place in Dessau alongside the other venues . In 2012, however, with only 5,000 visitors, the number of spectators clearly fell short of the organizers' expectations, which then gave up the Metalfest in Dessau.

When the festival was first held, the festival was still called Legacy Fest, according to Legacy magazine . Band contest
For several years now, Metalfest has organized a band contest in the form of online voting. Users can only cast one vote at a time. This must be activated by a confirmation email, otherwise the vote will not count. The band with the most votes will get a slot at the Metalfest. Groups are checked when registering. The organizers reserve the right to delete bands that do not correspond to the festival concept or represent a political ideology (e.g. right-wing extremism ).
Metalfest Winter Edition
At the Metalfest Winter Edition 2011 there were concerts on December 2nd and 3rd, 2011 in Oberhausen and Gießen . Bands that performed were Sepultura , Milking the Goatmachine , Kataklysm , Exodus , Triptykon , Destruction , Marduk , Heathen , Mortal Sin , Azarath and Lost Dreams .

In addition to the Legacy Magazine, the Metalfest Open Airs are sponsored by Metal Hammer (magazine) and Nuclear Blast . Further sponsors depend on the respective region of the festival.
