Mirinda Carfrae (born March 26, 1981 in Brisbane ) is an Australian triathlete , world champion in team relay (2003), runner-up U23 world champion in the Olympic distance (2002 and 2003) and the long distance (2005). She also won the Ironman World Championship three times (2010, 2013, 2014) and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in 2007 . She is listed as the fastest Australian female athlete on the Ironman distance triathlon leaderboard .

Career

Mirinda Carfrae started triathlon in 2000 and started for Australia from 2001 to 2005 at the World Championships of the International Triathlon Union over the short distance, where she was honored with the silver medal in the U23 in 2002 and 2003. In 2003 she became world champion in team relay in Tiszaújváros together with Pip Taylor and Nikki Butterfield . Her nickname is "Rinnie" .

Vice World Champion Triathlon Long Distance 2005

At the Triathlon International de Nice in 2004 she also won the long distance for the first time and in 2005 she was runner- up behind the Belgian Kathleen Smet in the long distance.
In 2007 Carfrae won the Ironman 70.3 World Championship (half distance: 1.9 km swimming, 90 km cycling and 21.1 km running).

Winner Ironman World Championship 2010

In October 2010, she won her second start in Hawaii at the Ironman World Championship (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running). In 2013 she was able to repeat this success and with her winning time of 8:52:14 h, she was able to undercut the course record of British rider Chrissie Wellington by almost two minutes. She was victorious in Challenge Roth in 2014 with a time of 8:38:53 h.

The following year, Carfrae was only able to take the lead about 7 km from the finish at her sixth start at the Ironman Hawaii with the fastest marathon in the history of the event (2:50:26 hours) and achieve her third title in Hawaii. In doing so, she drew level with her compatriot Craig Alexander , who was also victorious three times in Hawaii, and was the fourth woman after Paula Newby-Fraser , Natascha Badmann and Chrissie Wellington to triumph more than twice at the Ironman Hawaii.

The prize money for her win at the Ironman Hawaii 2014 in the amount of US $ 120,000 was already enough to make her the second highest- earning athlete in the Ironman World Series this year, behind the Swiss Daniela Ryf .

With her participation in Ironman Austria in June 2016, she started a race in Europe for the first time and she was able to win the race after 8:41:17 hours with a new course record. Mirinda Carfrae is trained by Siri Lindley . In 2017 she took a maternity leave.In June 2018, she finished second in the Ironman Cairns . At the Ironman Hawaii , the then 37-year-old finished fifth as the best Australian in October 2018.

Mirinda Carfrae lived in Logan City (Queensland) for many years and since her wedding to Timothy O'Donnell in December 2013 she has lived with him in Boulder, Colorado . Their daughter was born in August 2017.
