Mohammad Musa Schafiq

Mohammad Musa Schafiq (* 1932 in Kabul ; † 1979 ) was an Afghan politician, poet and narrator who was not party to any party and who wrote in Dari (Persian) and Pashto .

Schafiq attended elementary school and Koran school and graduated with a Mawlawi degree in Islamic theology. First he worked in the king's secretariat, then he went to study in Egypt and the USA on behalf of the Ministry of Education. In Cairo he obtained a master's degree in Islamic law, and from Columbia University he completed a degree in comparative political science. On his return he became General Director for Legal Affairs in the Ministry of Justice, and also a lecturer at the University of Kabul .

In 1971 he was appointed foreign minister, in December 1972 he took over the post of prime minister, in which he became very popular. In the coup of Mohammed Daoud Khan on July 17, 1973, he lost both positions, but remained in his government. After the Red Army invaded Afghanistan , he was arrested in 1978 and murdered by the Chalq party in 1979 .
