society

Moritz Nicolas grew up in his hometown Gladbeck and started playing football with Adler Ellinghorst . There he started as an outfield player before he was used in goal during indoor training. After completing a trial session at FC Schalke 04 , Nicolas moved to SV Zweckel and after a stopover at VfB Hüls , he joined the youth team at Rot-Weiss Essen . During his time with the Essenes, he came into the atmosphere of the German junior national teams. Moritz Nicolas moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2015 and played his first game for the second team on October 31, 2015 in a 3-1 loss at home in the Regionalliga West against FC Viktoria Köln . As a youth A player (U19), he completed the summer preparation with the pros. By the end of the 2018/19 season , Moritz Nicolas had played 75 games for the second team in the Regionalliga West .

For the 2019/20 Bundesliga season , the goalkeeper strengthened the newly promoted 1. FC Union Berlin for two years on loan. After Nicolas had been in the squad as a backup for regular goalkeeper Rafał Gikiewicz throughout the season , he was called into the starting line-up on matchday 33, when relegation was already assured. After only one Bundesliga appearance, Borussia Mönchengladbach ended the loan deal with Union Berlin prematurely in August 2020 and instead loaned Nicolas to the second division VfL Osnabrück for the 2020/21 season .

National team

Moritz Nicolas played one game for the German U19 national team and two games for the U20 .
