Mother Nature's Son ( English ; Son of Mother Nature ) is a song by the British band The Beatles from 1968. It was composed by Paul McCartney , but it is under the band's usual copyright Lennon / McCartney .

background

Paul McCartney came up with the idea for Mother Nature's Son after attending a course on nature given by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in India . McCartney later composed the song in his father's house in Liverpool . The song Nature Boy by Nat King Cole served as a source of inspiration . John Lennon , who had attended the same course with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, wrote a song on the same subject called Child of Nature . However, preference was given to Mother Nature's Son and Child of Nature was not included. Lennon released the song in 1971 with new lyrics under the name Jealous Guy on his solo album Imagine .

admission

Mother Nature's Son was recorded on August 9, 1968 at Abbey Road Studios , London . The producer was George Martin , assisted by Ken Scott . Except for Paul McCartney, no Beatle plays on this recording. Paul McCartney first played 25 takes of the song on an acoustic guitar and sang along with it. Take 24 was selected as the best recording to be continued on August 20, 1968. McCartney added another acoustic guitar, on this day drums and a separate dressing down in multitracked added. A wind quartet (two trumpets and two trombones ) was then recorded, which played an arrangement composed by McCartney and George Martin . Two improvised songs emerged during the session: Wild Honey Pie and Etcetera , of which Wild Honey Pie was released on the double album The Beatles . Etcetera, on the other hand, is one of the rarest Beatles songs today and was never published.

With stereo and mono mixes on October 12, 1968, work on Mother Nature's Son was completed.
