The Beatles Box is the seventh compilation album by the British group The Beatles after their breakup, which includes previously released recordings. The album was released in the UK on November 3, 1980.
Emergence
World Records , EMI's mail order company , released the Beatles' largest compilation set to date over ten years after the Beatles split up. While the two double albums 1962–1966 and 1967–1970 comprise a total of 53 songs, The Beatles Box contains eight albums with 126 songs, most of which are arranged chronologically according to their release date. The exception is that the songs on the album Let It Be are placed before those on Abbey Road . This could be due to the fact that the album Let It Be was mostly recorded before Abbey Road . The compilation of the songs on the albums was done by Simon Sinclair.
A Flexidisc containing excerpts from songs was produced for advertising purposes . In addition to being mailed to the UK by mail, the box was also made in Japan .
Some versions of songs from the compilation album were first released on LP or were difficult to obtain in the UK:

- This version is the British single release recorded with Ringo Starr on drums.
- to 14. All My Loving
- This version has a hi-hat intro by Ringo Starr, which was originally released on the German compilation album The Beatles' Greatest .
- to 24. And I Love Her
- The slightly longer German version of the song was used on the album Something New , based on the British mix.
- to 31. She's a Woman
- She's a Woman was first released in stereo in the UK .
- to 55th Day Tripper
- This version is the US stereo mix from the album Yesterday and Today .
- to 65. Paperback Writer
- This version is the US stereo mix originally released on Hey Jude .
- to 69. I'm Only Sleeping
- This version is the US stereo mix from the album Yesterday and Today .
- to 77th Penny Lane
- In this stereo version of Penny Lane , a short recorded sequence of a piccolo trumpet was added, which was previously used exclusively for the US mono promotional single. Editing was done by sound engineers John Palladino and George Irwin. The first release was on the US album Rarities .
- to 88. All You Need Is Love
- The mono version of All You Need Is Love used here is 15 seconds longer than the stereo version.
- to 89.Baby You're a Rich Man
- For the first time a stereo version of Baby You're a Rich Man was released in Great Britain, this version comes from the German edition of the LP Magical Mystery Tour .
- to 93. I Am the Walrus
- For the US album Rarities , a new version of I Am the Walrus was produced by the sound engineers John Palladino and George Irwin, in which the British stereo version of the EP Magical Mystery Tour was merged with the US mono single version. This version has been adopted here.
- to 106. Don't Pass Me By
- The mono version Don't Pass Me By is clearly audible from the stereo version.
- to 101. The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill
- The guitar intro of the song The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill was shortened.
- to 125/126. The End / Her Majesty
- On the album Abbey Road the pause between the two songs is 15 seconds, on The Beatles Box only five seconds.
The Beatles Box could not place in the British charts, since it was only available through mail order and the sales were not recorded. Production of the box ceased in 1982.
Republication
In July 1987 the box was released as a music cassette box.
The album The Beatles Box has not yet been legally released on CD .
Cover design
The eight covers were designed by Frank Watkin. Each of the eight record covers has an individual image. The eight albums are enclosed in a cardboard box, the outside of which depicts a wooden box with "From Liverpool" branded on it and a sticker with the title of the compilation album The Beatles Box .
The short treatise on the history of the Beatles and the commentaries on each song was written by Hugh Marshall.
