The Beatles Ballads ( English Ballads of the Beatles ) is the sixth compilation album by the British group The Beatles after their separation, which contains previously published recordings. The album was released on October 13, 1980 in Great Britain and on October 20, 1980 in Germany. The album was not released in the USA .
Emergence
The record contract between EMI and the Beatles expired on February 6, 1976, so that EMI was entitled to publish compilation albums without obtaining the consent of the Beatles. The first released in 1976 was the double album Rock 'n' Roll Music , which in a broader sense includes rock songs by the Beatles. In 1977 Love Songs followed , which includes love songs by the Beatles. Another themed album was released three years later with the album The Beatles Ballads . It was similar to the album Love Songs , so it contains the following ten songs, which are also included on Love Songs :

- You've Got to Hide Your Love Away
For the first time a Beatles album with 20 songs was released, which contains almost an hour of music. With Michelle and Norwegian Wood (same mix as in the British edition of Love Songs ) the vocals were put more centered through the mix. Who made this mix is not documented.
The album The Beatles Ballads was hardly advertised by Parlophone in Great Britain and only entered the charts after the death of John Lennon and reached number 17, in Germany the album could not be placed in the charts. The Beatles Ballads , however, was commercially successful in Australia (1st place) and New Zealand (2nd place). The Beatles Ballads was released by Capitol Records not in the USA, but in Canada .
In South Korea , the song Norwegian Wood was replaced by Girl .
In the Netherlands , the album The Beatles Ballads was released under the title De Mooiste Songs with a different cover design.
Republication
The album The Beatles Ballads has not yet been legally released on CD .
Cover design
The design of the cover comes from Peter Sheperd and the company Shoot That Tiger! The front cover picture was painted by John Patrick Byrne and was first published in the book The Beatles Illustrated Lyrics by Alan Aldridge. The photo of the back cover is from Stephen Goldblate.
