Nathanaël Mbuku (born March 16, 2002 in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges ) is a French football player who is under contract with the first division club Stade Reims . The winger has been a French U18 international since August 2019 .

Career

society

Born in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges , a small town near the capital Paris , Mbuku started playing football at the local Cheminot Villeneuvois FC at the age of six. He then played for eight years in the youth department of six different teams, including UJA Maccabi Paris and FC Fleury . In July 2017 he moved to the youth academy of Stade Reims . There he was used on August 18, 2018 (2nd match day) in the 2-0 home win against Arras Football for the first time in the reserve team in the Championnat National 2 . On November 23, 2018, he signed his first professional contract with the Rouges et Blancs . In this 2018/19 season he made eight appearances in the reserve.

He was promoted to the first team for the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season . He made his Ligue 1 debut on August 10, 2019 (1st matchday) when he came on for Tristan Dingomé in the 2-0 away win against Olympique Marseille in the second half . During this season he played 11 league games in which he remained without a goal participation.

National team

Mbuku played nine friendly matches for the French U16 national team between December 2017 and May 2018, in which he scored two goals. He then worked for the U17s .

With this selection, he took part in the 2019 U17 European Championship in Ireland in May 2019 . There he played all five tournament games, scored one goal and reached the semi-finals with France. In autumn 2019 he was appointed to the U17 squad for the 2019 U17 World Cup in Brazil . With a hat trick , he promoted his team to the quarterfinals in the round of 16 against Australia . With one goal and one assist, he made a significant contribution to the semi-finals against hosts Brazil in the 6-1 win against Spain . Although he also scored against them, the Bleuets ultimately failed 2: 3. He was also on the starting line-up in the 3-1 win in the game for third place against the Netherlands , but remained without a goal participation. Behind the Dutchman Sontje Hansen , he was the second best goalscorer of the tournament with five goals.

After the World Cup he was nominated for the U18 for the first time .
